PART UNO - DIY Oversized Vest For Her
I was looking at my husbands shirt knowing the basics - I want a fashion item for Autumn (my favorite season of the year!). I then started brainstorming fashion ideas and trends in Autumn - layering opportunities and contrasting textures. I then sketched an over sized vest which creates both those ideas.
This was a seriously quick and easy DIY which has become a basic in my Autumn wardrobe, so many outfit ideas popped into my head when I saw the finished product!
Materials You Will Need:
- His shirt that you've now claimed
- A different fabric (I chose scrap denim that I had left over from a different project)
- A ruler
- A marker
- Thread and Needle matching to the shirt.
- Pattern paper (You can use normal paper)
- Scissors
STEP ONE
I unpicked (using an unpicker) the two front pockets on the shirt.
STEP TWO
On my paper I then traced and cut out the pockets.
STEP THREE
Using my new template, I pinned and cut out the pockets on my denim fabric. I didn't bother over locking or seaming the edges of the denim because I was going for the more grunge look (which fraying denim gives), but if you want a more clean look on your fabric you are more than welcome to seam your edges.
STEP FOUR
Putting the pockets aside I then continued with the shirt. I cut right along the pink dotted line indicated in the picture. Keep the sleeves because I will be uploading more tutorials on how you can create something new using them.
STEP FIVE
I then pinned and hand sewed the denim pocket where the original ones were.
STEP SIX
I marked where the buttons are to be sewn, using the button hole on the pocket flap as guidance.
STEP SEVEN
The final step of our oversized vest!
I then hand sewed the buttons on.
FINISHED PRODUCT!
