Make yourself that adorable box bag to suit your pretty dresses. It's a simple thing that makes such a big impact on your outfit.
Verdict: Because it is quite a unique style it took me awhile to think of how to design it, what materials to use, and how to make it easier for all of you to create.
I was so surprised, it took me all together 1.5 hrs to make it, and I cannot say enough how in love I am with it. I have so many outfit ideas on what I'm going to wear it with ticking away in my head.
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Screw Driver
- Scissors
- Material of your choice
- Cupboard handle and screws (optional: if you want a handle or not)
- Spray Glue (I bought this from Bunnings.)
- Wooden Craft Box (Bunnings)
- Drill
- A pick or knife
Step One
Measure and mark where you would like to put your handles.
Drill the holes for your handles screws.
Skip this if you don't want to put on handles.
Step Two
Using your screw driver, unscrew all the hinges and hardware on your box.
Step Three
Place the box base on top of the wrong side of your fabric.
Cut a square around the perimeter of your box, allowing 3.5 inches allowance on each side, or enough allowance so that the fabric can cover the sides of the box.
Step Four
Draw and cut a diagonal line from the corner of your box to the corner of the fabric square, do this to all four corners.
Tip: You may want to wear gloves when gluing - so sticky |
Glue the base of your box in place.
Step Five
Glue down one corner of was side as indicated in the picture.
Step Six
Glue the opposite corners and all sides to the box, as indicated in the picture.
You should end up with nice clean edges |
Step Seven
Fold and glue the remaining fabrics over the top.
Once the glue is dry you can simply cut off the raw edges, or if you have enough patience you can create a lining.
Step Eight
Setting the base of the box aside to dry, cut and glue your fabrics to cover the lid.
Step Nine
Using your pick, or your knife (any small sharp object), poke a hole into the fabric, where all the screw holes are.
Step Ten
Screw your handle (if you are putting one in), your hinges and all the hardware back onto the box.
YAY! You have now completed a thoroughly explained Tutorial, on how to make a Box Bag.
I hope you all enjoyed this DIY Tutorial and give it a try. The instructions may have seemed thorough, but trust me, if I (out of all clumsy people) can pick up a drill... it must be easy!

DeleteThe box isn't solid timber, it's that soft wood - it's not heavy. I might use it on sunday so you can see.
