DIY - Ribbon Photo Board

The best part of preparing the nursery for the little bubba is decorating it! I decided I wanted to make a ribbon photo board to hang in our nursery and being my usual self I wanted it to be cheap and easy!
This simple project took me about 20 minutes and cost about $3.99 (most of the materials I used were things already lying around the house).

YOU WILL NEED:
  • A canvas (I bought mine from the local "Hot Dollar" store for $3.99, keep in mind if you do have a spare canvas that has no purpose lying around - feel free to use it!)
  • Ribbon approx. 2.5m (The color scheme is your choice, I used a cream color which was stashed away in my sewing box.)
  • Decorative Paper (I used gift wrapping paper we had left over. Please don't limit yourself to gift wrapping paper, you can use old clothes, spare material or even newspaper!)
  • Hot Glue Gun (I've had mine for about 5 years, I bought it for $7.99 at a discounters store, just look in the craft section.)
  • A Pair Of Scissors

Now lets begin...

Step One
Cut the decorative paper around the perimeter of the canvas, remember to leave at least 2cm allowance around the edges for gluing.

Step Two

I guess the best way to describe it is, as if you are wrapping a present; use the glue gun and glue down the edges of the decorative paper to the back of the canvas. Make sure you press down firmly for the glue to dry.
BE CAREFUL! I've learnt my lesson and have burnt my self one too many times using glue guns.

Step Three
Turn the now wrapped canvas over - now to cut your ribbon.
I diagonally placed the ribbon on the canvas and roughly cut the ribbons length. You don't have to be so precise with measurements, just make sure you leave at least 2cm allowance on each side of the ribbon for gluing.

Step Four
Turn the canvas over and begin to hot glue the ribbons edges down to the back of the canvas. Make sure you only glue down the ribbon to the back of the canvas, and glue the ribbon down tightly!
Remember! Glue gun = hot! hot! hot! :)

Once glued the front should look like this

Step Five
Repeating Step Three cut the ribbon once again but in the opposite direction.

Step Six
Weave the new cut set of ribbon through the first set and finish by gluing its edges at the back of the canvas.

Congratulations! Your Ribbon Photo Board is now ready to be covered in your wonderful memories and displayed for everyone to admire!
I hope you all enjoyed this little DIY and remember! Don't limit yourself on the materials you use when making this project, it's a chance to be creative and use your imagination! :)
