DIY: Those Lace Shorts

You know "Those Lace Shorts" that have been around for awhile now and are so fricken adorable? Yeah well I've always been in love with them, but from pregnancy body to post pregnancy body, I haven't been able to find a comfortable pair for myself. 
Using an old pair of elastic waist shorts, I've made an easy tutorial so you can transform an old, boring pair of shorts into "Those Lace Shorts".

 

 

 

Materials You Will Need:

• An old pair of shorts
• Lace Trimmings (I have two different styles of lace trimming, 4m of large lace trimming and 4m of smaller)
• Pair of scissors
• Matching thread
• Pins
• Needle or Sewing Machine

TIP: Do this for the crotch area.

Step One
Start pinning and cutting your lace trimming where you would like them to be sewn. Starting from the bottom makes it so much more easier.

If you happen to use shorts with a zipper, just cut the trimmings around the zipper. 

Step Two
After three rows of the larger lace trimming, I then continued by pinning and cutting my smaller lace trimming.

Step Three
Either by hand-stitch (back stitch) or sewing machine (straight stitch), sew the lace trimming down.

Step Four
Sew along the pink dotted line (indicated in the picture), to sew the lace down around the crotch area.

And there you have it! Your very own pair of "Those Lace Shorts".

I completed the look by sewing on matching ribbon above the first row of lace trimming - which is completely optional.

DIY That Floral Headband

I've always been fascinated by this ongoing trend of the Floral Headband, there's something chic and romantic about it that just captivates me. 
I was disappointed the other day, when I was browsing online stores to find a Floral Headband for myself - only to find that the decent ones online were costing about $25AU (overpriced much?). I thought the flowers must either be made from silk fabrics, or there is some major hustling going on in the online shopping world, because there is no way I would pay $25AU for a headband (just not possible for my cheap, Asian ass).
The Asian in me came out and I knew I could customize my own headband at quarter of the price. 
This is the DIY Tutorial I had come up with, it was so quick and easy (done in 10 mins). I hope you all enjoy it and give it a try. 

 

 Materials You Will Need:

• Fake Flowers ($2.50, Dollar Store) - You can make a focal point, statement headband, or a pretty, dainty headband, all depends on your flowers.
• An old plastic headband
• Scissors
• Glue gun

Step One
Using your scissors, cut the flowers off their stems, make sure you cut as close to the flower as possible. 

Step Two
Lay the flowers out on how you would like to glue them down. 

Step Three
Use your glue gun and start gluing the flowers down to your headband.

Make sure to hold down tightly until glue has dried.

And there you have it! Your quick and easy Floral Headband.

I'm very happy with my results! Chahaha.

See how easy it was? I'm so happy with the results, just waiting for my next trip to the Dollar Store so I can buy more flowers to play with.

All Those Safety Pins! Statement Necklace DIY Tutorial.

Don't know what to do with all those Safety Pins? Make a Hardware Statement Necklace!

 For some reason whenever I buy a packet of safety pins (when I only need one), I end up with a bunch of them, lying in random places around the house. 

One night when I was tidying up the house, my husband laughed at me, when I found one safety pin and automatically threw it straight into the bin, he asked me "Can't be bothered putting it away?" - yes my laziness took over.

This then inspired me to be creative and DIY a Hardware Statement Necklace to reduce the clutter. With a few trials, mistakes and editing, this is what I had come up with - give it a try and add something to your wardrobe!

Materials You Will Need:

• All those safety pins! - I used the large ones I had
• A pair of pliers
• Jewellery Craft wire
• A lighter
• 2 Ribbons (20inch long)

Step One
Using your pliers, cut your wire 8inchs long. 
Loop and twist one end of the wire. Make sure you twist and flatten the end as much as possible - last thing you want is wire poking you.

Step Two
Thread the wire through your safety pins, inter-changing the ends of the safety pins - refer to the picture.

Keep threading your safety pins until you are satisfied with the length of your statement piece.

 

 

Step Three
Once you are happy with the length and size of your statement piece, use your pliers to loop and twist the end of your wire, to secure the safety pins. Make sure your keep the safety pins tight and compacted. 

Step Four
Putting your safety pin statement piece to the side, slightly burn the ends of your ribbon using your lighter - this prevents fraying and cleans the edges. 

Step Five 
Thread one ribbon through the loop and tie both ends together.
Repeat this with the other ribbon on the other side of the statement piece. 











 

Step Six
Knot both ribbons together to complete the fastening. 

Yay! You have now completed your all year round trend!

Wear it as a focal point to dress up your plain T

Or add it to that funky top to give it a more grunge-chic look to your outfit

This statement piece and how you wear it is entirely up to you.

The Great Gatsby - That Fringe Skirt

One of the greatest stories ever told. I was such a huge fan of the book in High School, and then after watching Robert Redford star in the rendition, I was obsessed with the film. The book was about how beautiful and tragic love can be, it's about money and how it can't get you everywhere - it's just AH-mazing. 
Anyway, this isn't a book review - haha. 
I was so psyched when I found out they were releasing a remake of The Great Gatsby. I found out on my wedding day from my make up artist, turns out she was one of the backstage makeup artists for the film (oh my gawd!).
It stars Leonardo Di Caprio as Gatsby (which is pretty big shoes to fill considering Robert Redford was such a hottie back in the day - haha).
Well one of the first things that went through my head was "Trend Alert", if it wasn't the story line you were after with the film... it's the fashion. We're talking about embellishments, glitz and glam, women smoking (not for the habit of it mind you, but for the fashion of holding a cigarette). We're talking lace, beads, pearls, feathers, tassels and fringes - there was no limits when it came to The Great Gatsby. I seriously predict that this winter you'll be seeing women wearing these exact things, and who am I to pass off embellishments, lace and tassel?
Feeling pumped, great and full of inspiration, I then went a bit nuts at the material store and bought 8m's of fringe trimming, with a few wonderful projects in mind. 

I hope you all feel as inspired and psyched about this trend alert as I do.

Before we start our Tutorial, let us admire for a little bit how suave and cool Robert Redford was playing Gatsby in the 1974 film.

 

My boring unused skirt before the wardrobe rehab. 

Materials You Will Need:

• The plain skirt that needs a facelift.
• Handy dandy scissors
• Pins
• Matching thread and needle
• Fringe Trimmings (to give you a number, I had purchased 8m's of trimming)

Step One
On your skirt, layer, pin and cut the fringe trimming according to how you would like it to be sewn. 
I recommend starting the trimming from the sides of your skirt.
Remember to leave some allowance of fringing at the ends - just in case. 

Tip: Do this if you happen to have a zipper on your skirt.

After you've pinned the trimming down it should look something along the lines of this, messy I know, but don't worry it looks fabulous once you've sewn it down. 

 

Step Two
Sew either by hand (back stitch) or machine (straight stitch) the trimmings, where you have pinned them on your skirt.

TADA! You have finished! Just made with two simple steps, pin and sew.

The after - It's wonderful how you can change the look of a skirt entirely with just some embellishments isn't?
