DIY: Statement Piece - Straight Knot Necklace

Sit on the couch with your favourite T.V show, or keep your hands busy while your on the morning train with this easy DIY Tutorial. Learn how to make a statement Straight Knot Necklace.

INSPIRED: I am always in search for statement necklaces when it comes to the warmer seasons of the year. Why? I usually turn to plain white T-shirts in the warmer months (it's cool, easy and goes with everything!) and to add a bit of oomph to a plain white T-shirt, I usually pair it with a statement necklace. So when I saw a similar necklace to this one, I decided I just need one for this coming Spring/Summer.
VERDICT: It was easy to make and fuss free, once you get into the process, the ball just keeps rolling - so I enjoyed some Korean T.V while making this and before I knew it I had finished it. I'm excited to make more using bold fabrics.

Materials You Will Need:

• Stretchy Fabric (material store)
• 2 Chains of 8" in length (dollar store)
• Jump Rings (dollar store)
• Necklace Closure (dollar store)
• Glue Gun
• Scissors

Step One
With your stretchy fabric, cut out two stripes 15cm long and 1" wide. Put that aside.

Step Two
Cut 4 strips of fabric about 1m long and 2" wide.

Step Three
Stretch those 4 strips - it should now look similar to the picture.

Step Four
Gather your 4 stretch strips together and tie them in a knot at the end.

Step Five
Now to start the straight knotting. Hold your knotted strands making sure the knot is at the bottom. 
Get one of the strands and flip it to the side that is facing you - as indicated in the picture, hold it in place. 

Step Six
Do the exact same thing but this time it will be the opposite side, hold it in place. 

Step Seven
Get a strand on the right side, weave it over the first strand and through the second strand - as indicated in the picture. 

Step Eight
Do the same as Step Seven but on it's opposite side. 
Get the strand on the left side, weave it over the first strand and through the second. 

After pulling the strands to tighten it, it should look similar to this from top view. 

What it should look like after you have fully tightened it. 

Step Nine
Repeat Steps 5, 6, 7, 8 and tighten the weaves until you have reached your ideal length of your necklace. 
It should start to look like what it does in the picture. 

Step Ten 
After you have straight knotted your necklace to your ideal length, make sure you leave some allowance for your chains and closures. 
Thread one of your chains through one of the strands.

Step Eleven
Tight a knot with the strand to keep the chain in place. Repeat this step to the other side of your necklace with your other piece of chain. 

Step Twelve
Getting the strands you had cut out in Step One, wrap and glue them around both of the ends - this completes the look and cleans up the edges. 

Step Thirteen
Cut off the excess strands of fabric you had hanging out on both sides of the necklace. 

It should now look like this. 

Step Fourteen
Attach Jump Rings to the ends of the chain - as indicated in the picture.

Step Fifteen
On one of the Jump Rings attach your necklace clasp closure. 

Yay! You now have your closure done!

Viole! You have now completed your statement piece.

DIY: Rope Necklace

A DIY Tutorial on how to add this simple statement piece to your outfits. 

Inspired: I have recently been watching a few seasons of Project Runway America when I saw one of the contestants wearing a rope necklace. 

Verdict: It's the perfect piece for draped outfits, that bohemian maxi dress or to add a bit of edge to a simple white T. 

Materials You Will Need:

• Rope (Bunnings)
• Twine (Dollar Store)
• Jewellery Chain (Dollar Store)
• Links (Dollar Store)
• Claw Clasp Closure (Dollar Store)
• Glue Gun 
• Scissors

Step One
Cut your rope into four lengths of 40cms each. 

Step Two
Dividing them into two parts, start over lapping each part over the other two - as indicated in the picture. 
If you find it difficult to keep it in place try taping the ropes down onto a flat surface. 

Step Three
Once you have reached the end of your piece (leaving about 2" allowance), get one of the links and insert it into one of the inner ropes - as indicated in the picture. 

Step Four
Before closing the link, insert your chain and cut it at 2" in length. 

Step Five
Gather all four ends together and using your glue gun, wrap the twine around the end to secure the ropes in place, making sure that you allow the chain to hang out of the end.
If you find this step difficult try using some masking tape to gather the ends together, before wrapping the twine.

Step Six
Repeat Steps 3, 4, 5 to the other end of your necklace. 
Please make sure that you allow the chain to hang out of the end - as indicated in the picture. 
It should look similar to this. 

Step Seven
Join links to both chains.

Step Eight
Join your claw clasp closure to one of the links. 

Step Nine
Voile! You are done with your rope necklace. Enjoy Styling!

DIY: Those expensive looking statement earrings.

 

An easy tutorial on how you can DIY your own pair of expensive looking statement earrings.

Inspirations: I'm a definite window shopper when it comes to expensive jewellery pieces, the only jewellery I will splurge on is a watch... and that's because it's functional. After window shopping a bajillion times on earrings that I want in my possession, I decided "hey! cut the crap and make your own." 

Verdict: Cheap to make and sturdy! I spent about $5AU on the materials (with the beading) at the dollar store, everything else I had at home. 

Materials You Will Need:

• Pair of scissors
• PVC (bought from fabric stores)
• Beads/Jems (Dollar Store)
• 2 Earring Head Pins (Dollar Store)
• Quality Industrial Glue (E-6000 from Ebay)

Step One:
Arrange the design of your earrings and how you would like the Beads/Jems to be glued.

Step Two:
Glue the pieces down onto your PVC.
Allow to dry.

Step Three:
Cut out your piece as close to the beads as possible. Try and avoid the PVC peeking through the front view of your jewellery piece. 

Step Four:
Glue your Earring Head Pins at the back of each earring.
Allow adequate time for everything to dry.

Gorgeous! You have now completed your own pair of expensive looking statement earrings. Enjoy making!

DIY: Stepford Button Earrings Tutorial.

An easy one step tutorial on how you can make Stepford inspired Button Earrings using two buttons. 

Materials You Will Need:

• 2 Buttons
• 2 Earring Head Pins
• Quality Industrial Glue

Only Step:
Glue the earring head pins on the back of each button and allow to dry over night. 

Yay! Your done. Simple right? Lol! Did we even need a tutorial for this?
